REPORT – In a society divided by the legacy of apartheid, white farmers are the target of particularly violent serial attacks. A phenomenon that is getting worse. To the point of mortgaging the very future of the country.

There were six of them. Diederich and Dolla Beyers, suddenly awakened a few seconds earlier, were able to distinguish their armed figures standing out in the thick darkness of their bedroom. While the assailants tied their hands and feet with electric cables, they offered no resistance, thinking only of one thing: their children, asleep in the next room. Lying on the ground and held in check by one of the men threatening to kill him and raping his wife, Diederich could hear the other five ransack his house in search of arms and money. As a result, he knew it: in all the attacks of farms throughout the country, the prowlers almost systematically cut down the husband. “Stay calm,” he repeated tirelessly to his aggressor in a fit of coolness.
